About my Massage Practice

~~~
My massage practice is based primarily on a foundational knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology paired with effective, skilled, compassionate treatment to give you relief from pain and help you experience optimal function. Massage Therapy is ultimately a conversation between therapist and client and also between your muscles and nervous system... together we will tailor a massage that will be effective for you and focus on helping you feel better.
I am trained in a variety of modalities including:
Myofascial Release techniques, Neuromuscular techniques, Deep Tissue techniques, Trigger Point techniques, Swedish massage, Prenatal massage, Acupressure, Mu Xing (Bamboo Bliss), Reiki and more. You can click on the "Services & Rates" and/or "About Me" pages to learn a little more about each of these techniques and my education.
Massage, as an adjunct manual therapy, can help create more functional body movement patterns, by helping us create what I like to call "a more accurate bodymap," through increased body awareness, or proprioception.
Depending on what type of issues you are experiencing, and your personal goals with Massage Therapy, I may be able to offer you some simple exercises/stretches to do at home that can help keep your body moving more functionally between massage sessions, providing you with longer lasting relief. I also highly recommend Physical Therapy as part of your injury prevention plan.
Unless we discuss otherwise, my sessions are usually an integrated approach, using some or all of these techniques to help you find relief and feel better. Some sessions may be clothed depending on what we discuss before your session and what may be the best treatment for you to achieve your goals through your bodywork session.
Additionally I am offering both dynamic cupping and Mu Xing. Cupping is negative pressure that has been proven to lower inflammation markers and for some people is deeply relaxing and effective at treating very tender tissue, or nerve related issues, especially in the back. I do "dynamic cupping" which means the cups are usually moving and do not leave dark bruises like stationary cupping. Mu Xing (Bamboo Bliss) is the use of heated wooden tools, Bamboo and Rosewood, that melt away tension and are so cozy and comforting on rainy or winters day!... I often incorporate one or both tools listed above in my sessions, at NO extra cost, if we discuss the possible benefits/contraindications and you are interested in trying them.
I also have the option for you to choose an essential oil for aromatherapy which brings in the many therapeutic benefits from the plant kingdom into your session.
One massage can provide much needed relief, while regular massage can help maintain your body and functional movement patterns which can prevent tissues from hardening and becoming sources for chronic pain and dysfunction. Massage can promote a more balanced hormonal and mental state by providing us with the time and space to breathe and allow our thoughts and bodies to slow down...  Research has indicated that regular massage even helps our bodies become more efficient with our breath and our oxygenation... providing important benefits throughout the body!
I am an experienced Certified Labor Doula and have trained in prenatal massage as well. Additionally, I have continuing education in Advanced Myofascial Techniques with Til Luchau, Sports Massage, treating lower back pain/fibromyalgia/cupping/the latest pain science/working with diabetic patients and more. Again, feel free to ask questions about anything you are curious about.
I am in network with Premera BCBS.
