About Karlan

I graduated in 2015 with 650 hours of education from The Arcata School of Massage in Arcata, California and I am currently a Licensed Massage Therapist in the states of Alaska and Colorado.

I feel fortunate to have worked as a Massage Therapist in the country of Belize, the capital city of Juneau, Alaska (where my husband and I had our delightful daughter, who is now 4. and continues to be our biggest joy in life) and most recently in Fort Collins, Colorado. I am very happy to be back in my lovely hometown of Fairbanks practicing massage again and watching my daughter experience life where I grew up.

I have been an insured member of The American Massage Therapist Association since 2015 and am still thrilled to be working in such a truly rewarding, dynamic and helpful field. I feel lucky getting to do what I do and being able to assist people in feeling their best despite the hardships that arise.

Through the different clinics I have worked with over the years, I solidified my love for helping patients live a more pain free life despite injury/chronic pain and working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary atmosphere. Most recently, I enjoyed establishing my own practice in Fort Collins, CO where I accepted many Workman's Comp/Auto injury patients as well as self pay clients. I look forward to getting to know you either at the clinic at Woodland Wellness off of Farmer's Loop in Fairbanks, or at my private practice.

I specialize in more focused and detailed sports massage and medical massage sessions to treat specific pain and dysfunction and to help you get back in your game, as well as skilled therapeutic relaxation massage. I use a combination of techniques; primarily Swedish, Neuromuscular, Myofascial release, Trigger Point, Acupressure and Deep Tissue- Golgi Tendon Organ stimulation techniques. I use an integrative approach to each session, emphasizing clear communication with my clients in order to provide you with the best session possible, while also listening closely to your bodies response to each technique. I believe it is important to work at the "speed of the body" and not the speed of the mind.

Massage, as an adjunct manual therapy, can help create more functional body movement patterns, by helping us create what I like to call "a more accurate bodymap," through increased body awareness, or proprioception. Depending on what type of issues you are experiencing, I may be able to offer you some simple exercises/stretches to do at home that can help keep your body moving more functionally between massage sessions, providing you with longer lasting relief. I also highly recommend Physical Therapy as part of your injury prevention plan!

Massage can help create more functional mental patterns by giving us space for our thoughts to slow down and our spirits to be more at ease. Research has indicated that regular massage even helps our bodies become more efficient with our breath and our oxygenation... providing important benefits throughout the body!

As I mentioned earlier, I use a combination of modalities including: Swedish, Deep Tissue- Golgi Tendon Organ Stimulation techniques, Neuromuscular techniques,Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release, Acupressure and Reiki. Feel free to ask me about any of these in more detail. I am an experienced Certified Labor Doula and have trained in prenatal massage as well. Additionally, I have continuing education in Advanced Myofascial Techniques with Til Luchau, Sports Massage, treating lower back pain/fibromyaliga/diabetic patients and more. I am excited to announce I am now offering dynamic cupping sessions as well as Bamboo Bliss (Mu Xing)- or heated bamboo massage. I look forward to working with you in the lovely Golden Heart town of Fairbanks, AK.
